Hey! It’s Holly Branson – I’m taking over my Dad's LinkedIn for a few hours, as part of Bring in Your Parents Day.
Today marks the third year of LinkedIn’s Bring in Your Parent’s Day (BIYP Day) – a day that encourages us all to pay more attention to the brilliance of our parents and invite them to learn more about our lives.
When BIYP Day first launched, I invited my Dad to spend a morning at work with me – it was great fun. While Richard Branson has been in the spotlight my whole life, he’s always just been Dad to me so it was really eye-opening to see him within an office context.

Dad has an extraordinary knowledge of the business, and I’m always inspired by his innovative ideas for the future. But what I found most inspiring during the visit was his ability to engage, encourage and excite everyone around him.
For as long as I can remember, this has always been Dad’s greatest skill. It’s not something he has had to work at, but rather something he always believed in – we should all always treat each other as we would like to be treated.

It may seem like an obvious statement, but respect, equality and kindness are the simplest ways to create a contagious company culture full of passionate and motivated people. This is the way we work at Virgin, and I feel lucky to be a part of it.
Dad’s BIYP Day visit feels like a long time ago now, and since then I have really grown into my role at Virgin. We’ve had lots more opportunities to collaborate and share skills since then too – with Dad joining me on visits to a number of companies within the Virgin Group. I feel proud that I can tell him about the amazing things going on at Virgin, and update him on the projects I’m working on. He always has great advice.

I don’t think there will ever come a time that I will stop learning from my parents, but there’s something so rewarding about getting to an age where you can role-reverse and share exciting and interesting things that you have learnt too. It’s even better when it’s a shared passion.
I encourage you to make time for your parents – ask questions, share knowledge and most importantly never take them for granted!
